Owens Corning Cultured Stone

Another great way to add value to your home & landscape is through various cultured stone applications. Owens Corning Cultured Stone products offer a stylish & unique look that is sure to grab attention. Camosse Masonry Supply can help you choose the right material for any job and can assist you in finding the right person for the project.

Owens Corning Cultured Stone® products originated in 1962 when brothers Garrett and Floyd Brown of Vallejo, California saw the need for a new kind of building material. The entrepreneurial pair of plasterers developed manufactured stone veneer: exact replicas of natural stones used for building, cast in flexible molds and hand colored with iron oxide pigments. Made of lightweight aggregate materials, the veneers were approximately one-quarter the weight of full-thickness stone and could be adhered to most wall surfaces.
The Browns' small, regional company began selling to dealers in northern California, but grew quickly as it added new products with broader geographic appeal. Soon Cultured Stone® products were distributed throughout the United States and Canada. Increased sales eventually established Cultured Stone® as the undisputed brand leader and preferred name in the manufactured stone products industry.
Today, the trademark CSV® (Cultured Stone® Veneer) stamp still appears on each and every piece of stone to guarantee customers they are getting the original: a proven and preferred brand they can trust and take pride in. The CSV stamp provides not only proof of authenticity, but a sense of security to customers who demand the best.
Cultured Stone® manufactured stone veneers meet AC-51 criteria, the strictest requirements in the industry. Products are available in more than 21 textures and more than 100 colors and are available nationwide from more than 850 dealers. The company operates plants in three locations: Napa, Calif.; Navarre, Ohio; and Chester, S.C.
Owens Corning is a world leader in building materials systems and composite solutions. A Fortune 500 company for more than 50 years, Owens Corning's people redefine what is possible each day to deliver high-quality products and services ranging from insulation, roofing, siding and manufactured stone veneer, to glass composite materials used in transportation, electronic, telecommunications and other high-performance applications.

Why Brick ROCKS!!

Camosse Masonry Supply and Redland Brick want you to know why Building with Brick is a better investment than building with vinyl, wood, or aluminum siding.
Below are a few facts about brick and why building with this material increases the value of your investment.
A Little Background on Brick
Brick is made of fired clay and is available in an array of colors, textures and shapes. Its color is derived from the clay or from additives. In either case, the color is as permanent as the brick itself. There are two basic brick types - face and paver. Bricks are made in many different sizes, but most outdoor projects can be planned and built using standard units. These measure 3 5/8" x 2 1/4" x 8", and weigh about four pounds each. Both the Mortarless Barbecue and Lawn/Landscape edging projects use standard bricks. For mortarless paving, Redland produces a 4" x 8" paver. The Four-by-Eight Paver gives you a simple two to one ratio and makes installing popular patterns such as basketweave and herringbone even easier. The Patio in a Day project uses these handy paving bricks.
Why Brick is Best
Statistically, 67.8% of homeowners prefer brick. Selecting brick for your home's exterior is a wise choice. Because it offers the highest resale value, requires less maintenance and is more durable, it's by far a better investment than vinyl, wood, or aluminum siding. The benefits of brick are considerable when compared to the less desirable exterior alternatives. Along with the strong preference for brick among homeowners, there are many other aesthetic and economic benefits that make the selection of brick not only the best looking choice, but also the most practical.

- Brick Homes have higher resale value. A home built with brick has a resale value approximately 6% higher than a comparable home without brick. The small initial investment for brick more than pays for itself over time.
- Brick offers better fire resistance. Made from natural clay materials, brick is the most fire-resistant of all siding materials. Home insurance rates are often lower on brick homes.
- Brick Homes are easy care. No cleaning or painting is required with a brick home. You will recoup your initial investment for a brick home with money saved on maintenance in a relatively short time. Brick will not warp, crack, rot, corrode, split or dent, and doesn't mind the weather. In fact, the look of a brick home actually improves throughout the years, looking more distinctive as it ages.
- Brick homes conserve energy and save money. Brick homes shut out noise and pests as well as the chemicals used for pest treatment. As a natural sound barrier, brick also insulates your home from outside noises and adds to the quality and comfort of living in a brick home.
How to keep your Brick in Tip-Top Shape
While one of the main advantages of brick is its low maintenance cost, there are some things you should know to keep your investment looking its best.
- Before cleaning brick, test it for absorption by thoroughly wetting a section with clean water. Use a garden hose if possible. If the brick becomes darker all at once, clean only a small area at a time, otherwise you can clean up to 100 square feet at a time. In warm weather, it's also a good idea to clean in smaller sections.
- Always saturate brick with clear water before applying cleaning agents and rinse thoroughly after cleaning.
- Use wooden, plastic or rubber buckets, wooden scrapers and stiff fiber brushes to clean brick.
- In most cases, stains can be removed by scrubbing with a stiff brush dipped in a strong solution of household detergent and warm water.
- To remove smoke stains, make a smooth, stiff paste of trichlorethylene (a refined solvent) or any dry-cleaning solvent, and purified, powdered talc. Apply this paste to the stain with a trowel and scrape off when dry. Repeat until the stain has disappeared and then wash the area thoroughly with clear water.
- Fresh paint stains can be removed with a commercial paint remover or a solution of two pounds trisodium phosphate, available at paint and hardware stores, to one gallon of water. Apply the mixture to the stain and allow to dry. Remove with a wooden scraper and wire brush. Rinse with water. For older paint stains, you may need to use steel wool or a steel brush. Be sure to protect unstained areas from any chemicals you use.
- Oil stains can be removed with a paste made of one pound of trisodium phosphate and one gallon of water. Add a small amount of powdered chalk to thicken the paste. Spread about 1/2" of paste over the stain and let it dry. Remove dried paste with a wooden scraper and wash the surface with clear water.
- Plants and vines growing over brick walls hold moisture and can cause mortar cracking and brick discoloration. To remove them, use a reputable weed killer, following the instructions on the package. Be sure to protect any areas not bothered by growth.

Delta-Dry Systems

Today's blog is about solving moisture issues. Delta's unique approach to this problem is solved by adding drainage characteristics to a weather resistant barrier. Learn more about Delta & their products below.
About Delta
Outstanding products, remarkable expertise and excellent service. With a comprehensive package of premium quality products and services Cosella-Dörken Products Inc. has created its position as one of the leaders in the North American construction-materials market.
For over 40 years, high quality products have been produced under the DELTA® brand name, always offering top levels of protection, reliability and energy conservation. This is the achievement of a company operating on an international scale with an exceptional team of highly motivated people.Cosella-Dörken Products Inc. is an autonomous subsidiary of Ewald Dörken AG (Germany), that has been a market leader for the building and construction industry in Europe for many decades. The company’s array of products includes foundation waterproofing and protection membranes, drainage systems, roofing membranes, weather resistive barrier membranes and building envelope systems, covering and scaffolding tarpaulins, garden sheets, pond liners, and more. The DELTA® brand also includes highly sophisticated paint systems and anti-corrosion systems, as well as phase changing materials for passive air conditioning in residential and commercial construction.

Pictured below is today's featured product, Delta-Dry.

Material
DELTA®-DRY
is an impermeable membrane made out of a special high-density polyethylene that provides two-sided drainage through its unique dimple and groove design.

Product Characteristics
The structured membrane provides a protective weather resistive barrier with complete capillary break for residential and commercial building structures. It protects the building from water intrusion behind the exterior cladding (i.e. wind driven rain) and manages water leakage through the cladding as well as transient moisture migrating from the wall structure by providing an air-gap on the interior and exterior side of the membrane

Shown below behind brick

DELTA®-DRY accommodates water vapor, driven from the interior to the exterior of the structure to escape through the air space between the exterior sheathing board and the membrane while minimizing the potential for condensation that could cause damage in the building envelope. The membrane provides breathability behind siding, brick veneer, or any other approved exterior cladding. At the same time it impedes solar-driven moisture towards the interior of the structure as it occurs for instance with brick veneer walls, or any other absorptive cladding material.

Shown below behind stucco

The innovative membrane also helps to save energy by reflecting radiation heat – keeping heat outside in the summer and warmth inside in the winter

Shown below behind cultured stoneApplication
DELTA®-DRY is installed on top of the exterior sheathing board (OSB) as a substitute for conventional sheathing membranes (i.e. building paper), or can also be installed on top of breather type sheathing membranes. The material is easy to cut with a utility knife. Seems are to be overlapped around 3 inches. Window and door cut-outs are to be wrapped with a self-adhesive flashing material along the bottom sill and the side jambs. Exterior cladding material can be installed as usual right on top of DELTA®-DRY. For more details please check the installation instructions.

ICC Flowtech

Due to all the rain we've had over the past few days, today's blog is focused on draining systems. ICC Flowtech provides a nice alternative to sand & gravel drainage and can be used in a wide variety of applications.

Flowtech™ has developed and engineered a drainage system to effectively reduce and redirect excessive water from commercial and residential building sites, slopes, lawns, and golf courses.
Their products are tested to be used with minimal disruptions to surrounding landscaping and lawns. Their system is lightweight and replaces gravel and stones with a heavy duty EPS aggregate with engineered channels for excellent flow.
By using ICC Flowtech™ systems the excess water is redirected and redistributed back into the soil.
ICC Flowtech™ systems contain no fines. Gravels systems contain excessive fines from the mining operation. These fines prematurely clog the trench bed and reduce the effectiveness of your system. ICC Flowtech™ Systems have five times the flow rate of gravel systems. Their Technical info proves it!

Properties:

-Heavy Duty
-High Flow Channels
-Consistent Shape
-Reduced Labor
-Reduces the threat of mold and mildew
-Easily installed to conform to any configuration
-Redistributes the excess/surface water and returns it to the Aquifer
-Each 10' unit has the capacity to hold up to 30 gallons of water and quickly/efficiently distributes back into the soil.

ICC Flowtech can be used in a variety of applications like:

Foundation Drain, Landscaping, Swimming Pools, Retaining Walls, Golf Courses, Sump Pump Drains, Septic Systems, & Storm Water Drains.

Isokern Fireplaces & Chimney Systems

For over 60 years in Denmark, Isokern has evolved as a fully automated company that manufactures the finest products available for heating and venting efficiency. Utilizing Icelandic volcanic stone, Isokern has achieved vast insulating values in the production of chimneys, fire boxes and fireplaces for indoor and outdoor use.
The pumice stone that is used in all Isokern products is a relatively new resource being excavated in approximately 2500 year old mines that are located near the polar circle. Due to such high quality resources, the aggregate is very clean, pure and exhibits very fine qualities as opposed to other volcanic material in lower latitudes which are full of organic material.
Today, Isokern satisfies two continents with exceptional lightweight products for residential, commercial and industrial uses. The Isokern brand is more established than ever and is becoming a well known product line among builders, developers, architects, designers and homeowners.
Isokern fireplace and chimney systems are unique to other products in the marketplace for a number of reasons.
Isokern systems are modular, masonry systems that can be assembled and installed in under a day. Unlike traditional masonry units that can take weeks or months to complete, an experienced installer can install several Isokern systems in a day.
As mentioned, Isokern systems are manufactured from volcanic pumice. This make-up allows the fireplaces and chimney systems to reflect heat more efficiently and have higher insulation values compared to other alternatives in the marketplace.

Isokern systems can be custom finished to satisfy homeowner, builder or interior design needs.

Fresh in from South Central Massachussets is our New England Yankee Wall. The Yankee wall has heavy brown and tan tones with heavy weathering. These pallets have been palletized as a flat round mix. The weight per pallet is approximitaly 3500lbs.

We have enough stone for any project and can provide onsite delivery and placement with the use of our rear mounted forklift. This is a low impact machine operated by a skilled driver. Don't break your back before the project even starts.

New England Garden Path is sorted for its larger flatter surface areas. This stone was found in Connecticutt and in limited supply. All of our Garden Path stones are sold by the pound so you can buy exactly what you need.

The Quabog Vallet Veneer is a beautiful example of ledge stone that has been worn by the glaciers of the past.

This naturally smooth stone is available in Mosaic Veneer and Thin wall. The pallets are 2500 lbs and a great example of a water garden stone. Buy this stone by the pound or pallet today!
